Our Mission and Vision
Vernon's vibrant cultural landscape comes alive through the dedicated efforts of our community nonprofit organisation. Established with the vision of fostering cultural enrichment and community cohesion, our organization has become a cornerstone for celebrating diversity, creativity, and shared experiences.
At the heart of our mission is the commitment to organising and hosting a diverse array of cultural events on Canada Day that showcase the rich tapestry of traditions, arts, and customs that define our community. These events serve as platforms for local artists, performers, and enthusiasts to come together and express themselves, creating a sense of unity and pride among residents.
Our main event is an annual town celebration on July 1st in Polson Park, though, in recent years, Canada has undergone a collective reckoning with its past, notably marked by the discovery of unmarked graves belonging to First Nations children in residential schools. In response to these heartbreaking revelations, a wave of protests emerged, urging a reevaluation of Canada Day celebrations. This shift in perspective emphasizes the importance of acknowledging and understanding the darker chapters of our nation's history while promoting a more inclusive narrative.
Our goal is to use the collective holiday to celebrate our community, and to create an event with something for everyone and all ages, featuring the gem of the city, Polson Park.
